No Waiting, Worrying, or Traveling for Dermatology Care

Teledermatology is Now Available at FCH Rural Health Clinics!

FCH is committed to expanding services that benefit our patients and is pleased to announce a new service that brings dermatology care to you, directly through your FCH healthcare professional, seeing patients at our Rural Health Clinic locations.

If you are experiencing a skin issue or condition, we’ve got your care covered.

In collaboration with board-certified dermatologists from DirectDerm, an organization that provides expert teledermatology consultation services to health clinics across the U.S., your FCH healthcare professional has 24/7 access to U.S. board-certified dermatologists who work directly with them on a diagnosis and treatment recommendations within 48 hours or less.

No extra paperwork. No long wait to be seen by a specialist. We bill your insurance. It is that simple.

Here’s how teledermatology works:

  • You make an appointment to be seen by one of our healthcare professionals for your skin condition or issue. Your visit is treated the same as any other office visit.
  • During your visit, if your healthcare professional recommends a consultation with a dermatologist, they will gather all the information needed and consult directly with a board-certified dermatologist from DirectDerm.
  • On a return visit, your healthcare professional will discuss the diagnosis and treatment recommendations. You can make your return visit by calling to schedule.

Have more questions? We have answers.

What skin conditions will be referred for a teledermatology consult?

Patients with skin conditions ranging from acne and eczema to psoriasis and skin cancer, including conditions that affect infants and children, can be referred for a teledermatology consultation, without any travel or wait time!

A few reasons why we’re here to help you protect your skin?

The skin is the largest organ in the body that covers the entire external surface. It protects the internal organs from germs and thus helps prevent infections. The main functions of the skin include:

  • Protecting from water, microorganisms, mechanical and chemical trauma, and damage from UV light
  • Serving as the first site of immunological defense
  • Regulating the temperature and water loss (through sweat)
  • Producing vitamin D from exposure to sunlight
  • Secreting oil (by sebaceous glands) that keeps the skin moist and soft and protects it against foreign substances
  • Helping the body sense touch, heat, cold, and pain
  • Insulating the body from external heat and cold
  • Is teledermatology covered by insurance?

Teledermatology consultations are covered by many insurance plans.

How does a teledermatology consultation work?

There is no need to wait, travel, or return for a second visit for a teledermatology consultation! When you make an appointment at one of our clinics to see a healthcare professional, be sure to indicate that you want to be seen for a skin condition.

During your visit, your healthcare professional will examine you, and if they recommend a consultation with a dermatologist, they will use a tablet to capture an image of the affected area and upload the photo(s) and notes with findings from their exam to a secure portal shared between DirectDerm and FCH.

Within 48 hours, the dermatologist working with your FCH provider will notify them of their diagnosis and recommendations for treatment, and those results will be available on your electronic health record, MyChart, for you to review with your provider at a follow-up visit.
